Treatments for Acne and Facial Scarring

Acne is a common skin condition and if left untreated can seriously affect a person’s appearance. Acne can occur on any skin type regardless of ethnicity, sex or age and can yield life-long scars as well as uneven skin tone. Current statistics show that Adult Acne is on the rise and many adults are left feeling confused as just when they thought they had left their troubled skin in the past it is now returning. Changing hormones especially in women in their early 30’s can also contribute to Adult Acne, or maybe your acne never really cleared up? And even when it did you were left with permanent scars, which is just as frustrating. Often those who have suffered acne vulgaris in youth are also prone to acne rosacea in later life also.

Laser Genesis:

Most people who have acne suffer from large pores where oil production is at its peak. When the pores get clogged up from this excessive oil and other skin cells, the sebum cannot then penetrate to the skins surface resulting in blemishes. Because pore size and acne are linked by controlling one can help the other. Our Laser Genesis reduces pore size significantly which can help against acne breakouts as well as providing excellent results in old acne scars and blemishes by texturizing the skin. It is a non-ablative technique that heats the upper dermis, which is right under the skin, to promote collagen and cell renewal. At this level new cells are then formed which are pushed up to the skins surface to help repair skin from any scars and blemishes left from acne. It can be used to treat any area of the body and is a very popular treatment amongst men and women to improve their skin tone. It is suitable for anyone who suffers from oily skin, Papulopustular Rosacea, enlarged pores and skin types 1-3.

During Treatment:

During the treatment patients can expect to feel warmth on their skin but it is not painful and is entirely safe. Exfoliation treatments can be used between appointments to clean off old cells from the skins surface whilst it is being renewed from underneath, however your therapist will advise when it is ideal to do so. Most patients state that it is quite relaxing and have described it as sitting under the sun. Although recovery is immediate, as it is non-invasive, some redness and swelling may occur. Patients should also expect to leave at least 2 weeks between treatments and refrain from wearing any makeup prior to their appointment as the skin needs to clean for laser use. This includes mineral makeup as the minerals left on the skin can cause reactions to the laser heat. Most patients can expect to see results after 2 or 3 treatments

Please note a full thorough consultation will be undertaken prior to any treatments where any medication such as Antibiotics, Retinols - topical or oral, and even the contraceptive pill should be disclosed as well as any medication that causes skin sensitivity to light. The severity of the acne condition will be assessed as well as any hormonal factors that can contribute to acne conditions. The size of oil glands is usually controlled by hormones, especially estrogen, which is why most adult women experience acne breakouts around their jaw and chin area. Acne is also found to be hereditary so although we can help reduce blemishes and improve skin tone, this treatment will not fix the underlying factor of why acne keeps reoccurring.
