Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

Always use a reputable clinic that has all the safety protocols. Wimpole Laser clinic uses one of the best and safest laser system in the aesthetic industry which only targets the hair follicle leaving surrounding tissues untouched. (More information can be found in the ‘About Us’ tab). We also undertake independent reviews of our clinic regularly to make sure we are following all Health and Safety procedures. In addition to this our laser machine is maintained by an engineer every month to ensure its continuous safety. Everything we do is certified as well as a thorough consultation with you to ensure its safety and suitability on your skin type.

How many treatments will I need for Laser Hair Removal?

Only 30% of your hair is in the active phase at any one time. This is the time when it will react to the laser the most and is also why a series of treatments are required to target all your hair growth. Everyone has a different hair growth cycle and thus can experience different rates of results. However experience shows that an average of 4-6 treatments on each area is needed until you see adequate results.

Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

Pain level for laser hair removal was often compared to that of a snap of a rubber band. However technology has changed a lot since then, we have had mixed feedback as different skin types and different treatment areas experience different sensations. Wimpole Laser Clinic uses a laser which will cool as it treats some people actually say they feel this coolness more than the laser itself.

Is it actually permanent?

The Laser light is converted to heat causing thermal damage to the hair follicle in order to reduce hair growth. If any hair does grow back it is far less finer and wispier than before and may even go unnoticed.

How is Laser different to IPL treatments?

The main differences between Laser and IPL hair removal, lie in the technology that each use to generate the light. Wimpole Laser Clinic uses Laser rather than IPL because the results of hair removal are better. It is more focused meaning we can target specific depths without damaging any surrounding areas and because of this it is also more suitable for all skin tones whereas IPL has the risk of burning darker skin tones.

What am I allowed to do in interim periods?

Only shaving is recommended before and between treatments because the root of the hair is still needed so it can be targeted by the laser. Hair removal creams should also be avoided as the chemicals seek to damage the hair follicle that makes it wilt away as well as posing skin reactions.

Can men have Laser Hair Removal?

Yes! Laser Hair removal is just as safe for men as it is for women.

Is there anything I can’t do whilst undertaking laser treatments?

Avoid hair removal treatments that pull out the root of the hair. Sun exposure as well as certain medications, such as Retin A products, should all be avoided. Please see the full list in ‘Advice and Aftercare’ for things one can and can’t do before and after Laser Hair Treatments or Laser Skin Treatments.

What’s the difference between 2D and 3D skin revitalization?

As we mature our pore size, fine lines, wrinkles, redness, age and sun spots start to appear. The 3D Approach is a medical skin rejuvenation procedure, developed by Cutera-a leading laser manufacturer. It involves not only resurfacing of the skin (2D revitalization) but our Titan technology also tightens the skin. After a 3D treatment, your dark spots will fade and disappear. Loose skin will become tighter.  Uneven skin tone and texture will diminish creating a smooth, healthy-looking complexion.

Are there any side effects to laser treatments?

At Wimpole Laser Clinic all our treatments are non-invasive and our Cutera Laser is one of the safest to use in the aesthetic industry... Our laser technology can be adjusted to penetrate different depths of the skin without damaging surrounding tissue. You will undertake a through consultation with your technician where a compulsory patch test will be carried out. Your skin type will be assessed as well as your suitability for the treatment in hand.

The pre and post advice should be followed as recommended by your therapist to avoid complications and receive the full benefit from your treatment.

Generally however sun exposure, chemicals, certain medications and swimming should be avoided before and after treatment. More information about this can be found in ‘Advice and Aftercare’ tab.

Can the hair reappear over time?

Hair can reappear over time and some top-up treatments may be needed. But this differs amongst each person. If hair does reappear it is far less finer and may even go unnoticed. The delay in hair growth also varies amongst each person; however you will see a permanent reduction.

Can my redness and spots appear over time?

New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffused redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved.
